Becoming an Accredited Psychotherapist
Comprehensive and insightful Psychotherapy training
As internationally accredited trainers in psychotherapy for many years before founding the Connexus Institute, we were determined to create a new approach that would comprehensively prepare you for this exciting and challenging professional role.
Our four-year Transactional Analysis-based psychotherapy course covers everything you will need to know, including the clinical skills necessary to become a UKCP registered psychotherapist and/or an accredited Transactional Analyst.
Unlock Your Path to UKCP Registration
Connexus is a Registered Training Establishment (RTE) with the United Kingdom Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA). UKATA is an Organisational Member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). This prestigious affiliation allows Connexus to train and assess for placement on the UKCP Register of Psychotherapists.
At Connexus, we offer two training routes for UKCP psychotherapy registration.
Route One - UKCP Registration as an Adult Psychotherapist via UKATA
To embark on this journey, UKATA members need to submit a portfolio demonstrating successful completion of a four-year psychotherapy training, including a commitment to their own therapy, the provision of no fewer than 450 hours of appropriately supervised clinical practice, submission of a specific 8,000-word written case study, and an oral assessment. Once completed, and in combination with evidence of fulfilling other UKCP requirements, the portfolio can be submitted to UKATA for candidates to be registered as psychotherapists.

Connexus has meticulously designed the written and oral assessments, as well as the competencies they evaluate, based on the CTA (P) written and oral assessments. Our goal is to empower candidates not only to secure UKCP registration but also to encourage them to pursue accredited CTA qualifications.
Please get in touch with us directly to:
- Learn more about this UKCP route, including the process of assessment
- Explore our accelerated pathway option (for those already qualified in a different modality)
- Discuss your circumstances if you have trained in a different RTE and would like to take your assessments with Connexus
Route Two - CTA Completion Route
Our second route is tailor-made for UKATA members who have undergone training at an RTE and wish to attain the qualification of Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) using the UKATA Training Handbook. You can find this invaluable handbook right here. This handbook also provides comprehensive information on the steps required to achieve both CTA and UKCP registration simultaneously.
